37 weeks

OK, so we've officially reached "full term"! And, I have to say, the week leading up to getting here has not been a fun one (though I did get lots of reading in and if anyone is looking for a great book to read, I'd highly recommend "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak-not sure on the spelling-my friend Liz recommended it to me and I really liked it. Just note that it is found in the young adult section)!
As most of you know, last weekend (and the week before) I had a great burst of energy and got lots of stuff done around here (I believe the technical term for it is "nesting"). I felt better in those 10 days than I have in ages!!!! On Tuesday though I sort of took a turn downhill. I thought I had just eaten some bad fruit-I got extremely nauseous and ended up going to bed that evening by 6 and haven't spent a lot of time out of bed since then. After a few days I knew it couldn't it have been bad fruit. I got some excellent advice from a friend who said that bad nausea was normal for some women as labor approaches. So, I've been following her advice and taking it easy, trying to stay hydrated, and just relaxing. That was going fairly well until yesterday. I got a really bad headache (in part 'cause while I'd been in bed a lot, I hadn't actually slept much at all) yesterday and could not get it to go away for anything (the Fioricet the doc's gave me awhile back wasn't even touching it). To top it off, my nausea was growing worse and I wasn't sure if I could take the Fioricet and the Phenergan (anti-nausea meds) together. At 11 last night I told Jeremy that if I wasn't either feeling better or asleep by 1, that I thought we needed to go to the ER just so I could see if I could take the 2 drugs together (if I'd had a phone number of a doctor or the labor and delivery floor I would have just called to ask). One came, and I was feeling no better, and was wide awake. So we unhappily made our way to the hospital. We were there 'til nearly 3:30 this morning (the ER sent us to the labor and delivery floor which made us a little frustrated 'cause we really just wanted one simple question answered and we knew I wasn't in labor, but they see a pregnant woman walk in the door and they send you up to labor and delivery). So, they ran a non-stress test on the baby and monitored my blood pressure and checked for contractions (blood pressure was much better by the way!). The baby was sleeping so it took awhile to get a read on her, but in the meantime I was having pretty good contractions every 7-9 minutes. So, before we left the midwife said she thought we'd be back in a few days in full on labor and gave us 2 tips that she said would make it certain we'd be back in 24 hours...1) walk every 4 hours and 2)...do something else every 4 hours (being that I try to keep this blog rated "G" I won't say what the "something else" was, but Jeremy was more than willing to cooperate!). I'm more than happy to do the walking, but don't think I'll be partaking in the second suggestion :)
So, it looks like lil' gherkin could be making her arrival sometime in the very near future! I think Jeremy and I were both very pleased to hear that, 'cause we are both very excited and ready to meet the little miss! Plus, my mom flew in today (Jeremy's on his way to pick her up right now), so that timing seems to be excellent as well!
