a baseball confession

As most of you know, I'm a big baseball fan. Have been for as long as I can remember. And, for as long as I can remember I've always been an Atlanta Braves fan. I was a fan when they were bad a long time ago, a fan when they were good, and am still a fan now when they're somewhere in between.

When I was in high school Colorado got a team, the Rockies. Naturally, they became the team I cheer for, unless they're playing the Braves. It's never been a problem to follow the Braves or the Rockies 'cause a lot of the Braves games were broadcast on TBS and the Rockies are broadcast on Fox Sports Rocky Mountain.

This year, TBS is no longer broadcasting Braves games (they do one baseball broadcast a week, on Sundays, and it's just 2 teams they choose for the week...I think they've had a Braves game once or twice).
Here in Oklahoma we get WGN (which does Cubs and White Sox games) some random station out of New York (which does a Mets game every now and then) and Fox Sports Southwest (which primarily does Texas Rangers games, but does an occasional Astros game too). Unless the Braves or Rockies are playing the Cubs, WhiteSox, Mets, or Rangers and the game is being broadcast on one of the above stations I don't get to watch 'em. This has been rather traumatic for me. Not only because I love my Braves and Rockies, but also because I have tended to have pretty whacky dreams during this pregnancy and watching baseball (or sports in general) before I go to bed is much better for the mind than watching some crime show. As a result, I've started watching the Texas Rangers. And here's where my confession comes...I have actually grown to really like watching this team. I've never been a fan of the American League (pitchers should have to hit) and definitely not the Rangers. But, this team is a lot of fun to watch. They're a team that's hovered right around the .500 mark all season. As of yesterday they're the only team in baseball that hadn't been shut-out. They're a team without a real superstar...just a bunch of kids going out and playing a game they love, and the thing is, it shows. So, I must confess, I'm officially a fan of the Rangers. The Braves and Rockies are still my favorites, but these kids are running a close third!
